About Us

About ILAIndependent Livings are privately-owned homes or complexes that provide housing for adults with mental illness and other disabling health conditions. They serve residents that do not need medication oversight, are able to function without supervision, and live independently.

Stable and supportive housing is one of the most effective ways to encourage recovery and reduce inappropriate use of the healthcare system. However, there are no standards or support for Independent Livings (ILs).

The purpose of the ILA is to provide Independent Living owners, residents and the community with tools and resources to promote high quality independent livings. The ILA is modeled after the Better Business Bureau and offers services to Independent Living owners, residents and the community to promote and support quality Independent Livings.

ILA Partnership

The ILA is facilitated by Community Health Improvement Partners and funded by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency's Behavioral Health Services through the Mental Health Services Act. Additional community partners include 2-1-1 San Diego, the Corporation for Supportive Housing, and many other Independent Living owners, residents, community organizations and law enforcement.
